Agent Story
|
Laura Thomas, M.A. has always loved stories. Some of her fondest childhood memories are of hearing adults chat about life and work while playing bridge at the kitchen table. By her late teens, she realized that she wanted to have a career as a writer.
Without a mentor to guide her, her poetry, plays and short stories went no further than her computer and a box of three-ring binders. In the meantime, Laura pursued her other passion - teaching - and earned degrees in Psychology, History and a Master of Arts in Educational Studies. Along the way her essays won awards and her teaching skills opened many doors for her in the academic world; but it wasn't really where she wanted to be.
Everything came together for Laura when she became a parent. How, she wondered, could she encourage her daughter to follow her dreams if she wasn't doing the same? Her writing grew into telling stories to kids and the storytelling fed her writing. Tutoring ESL and special needs students improved her skills as both a writer and teacher. Now Laura earns her living as a writer and storyteller.

Fanny's Play House Inc.
|
This company was started in 1973 by Fanny Wong, who had come to the U.S. for college and stayed on after graduation. She wanted to be a "stay-at-home" mom for her first born son after working almost constantly after he was born. She had enjoyed Sesame Street very much, while watching with her 5 year old, and admired Jim Henson's puppets. She made 5 puppets, walked the streets of New York with a shopping bag and a business was born (in a two room apartment). Small shop owners started to give her ideas of what they would like to carry, and the line was slowly expanded. By the time her second son was born in 1977, she had found a niche for her good quality products: the early childhood school market.

Yellow Label Kids
|
At Yellow label kids you won't find a fancy name on their label covering up a "Made in China" tag. They just don't like the idea of products for kids that could have been made with child labor. At Yellow Label Kids, they believe that products can be equally fun, stylish and comfortable, while still being ethically made. Each one of their products is made by hand by an artisan who is paid living wages, in accordance with Fair Trade practices. Finally, their products are 100% made by hand, not machine made with a few hand-touches. They believe that’s an important distinction, and something that makes them unique.

Quercetti
|
At Quercetti they know that toys are important tools for children's intellectual and physical development. Their our toys are designed to stimulate reasoning, creativity and mobility skills. They are also designed to be used over and over without being repetitive but always inspiring new discoveries and inventions. Too many toys appear promising when advertised but are ultimately disappointing to children and parents. This never happens with Quercetti toys. And their toys are totally safe not only because of our care in manufacturing them but also because we design them to be safe from the initial project. They spend a long time to observe how children play, how they treat their toys, what they like and what they don't. On that basis their research and development department produces prototyes that are tested in schools and kindergartens where children's behavior and reactions are studied with the help of expert child-psychologists. Consequently we make all the necessary changes and the final result is INNOVATIVE and ORIGINAL toys exactly how children want and need them to be. This is why their toys so frequently win prestigious international awards

Ukoonto
|
|
"The toys are hand made, which also means it takes more time than creating a plastic toy. Since wood is a natural material, it’s not as predictable as plastic. It takes a lot of time to make a set of blocks. Every piece of wood goes through Hans’ hands. His hard work and passion live in every toy. In addition, his workshop is powered by alternative energy. The wood is local recycled Ontario lumber, from a large wood factory. The lumber has never been used but the pieces are cut offs. If not recycled, they would be composted. Ukoonto keeps the wood from being wasted and creates new toys out of them.
Healthy toys for kids. That’s Hans’ work."
Safe for my Child?
Our toys are made from highest quality maple wood guaranteed not to expose your child to any dangerous materials.
Good for the Planet?
All wood used is 100% recycled (but never used) wood from local sources. Ukoonto only uses energy from alternative sources and makes a large effort to only choose the most eco-friendly practices in the production of its toys.
“We did not inherit this earth, we are only borrowing it from our children.”
Let’s return this planet to our children as best as we possibly can.

Beleduc
|
Playing belongs to the oldest culture goods and is older than reading and writing. Playing is funny in each age and for children it is wonderful to play with their family or with friends. Children should have the chance to learn during their playing and we try to help them with games of high educational standard. Our solution is to combine creativity, imagination & fun. All our products show the CE-sign and comply with the European standards.

Holztiger
|
HOLZTIGER toys are all handmade. HOLZTIGER paints its figures with water-based acrylic paints (so-called
water paints), which are totally non-toxic. The grain of the wood is
still visible even after painting, so that the full character of the
wood is retained. To make the figures resistant to perspiration and saliva, each figure is subsequently painted - also by hand - with a water lacquer. To make sure that playing and learning also stimulates a child’s imagination, the forms of the figures are reduced to the minimum. The result? Timeless and beautifully stylised wooden animals which allow a child’s imagination to develop fully while playing and having fun. Vibrant colours are known to awaken a child’s desire for exploration and discovery. The rich colours are complemented by the friendly faces painted onto the wooden figures. HOLZTIGER uses only hardwood, whereby most of the figures are made of maple. Maple is not only hard and durable, but is also characterised by attractive graining. Dependent on the requirements, oak, beech and birch are also used as well as maple. When you buy a wooden toy made by HOLZTIGER, you can be sure that it is not only durable and ecologically sound, but that it also meets the highest quality requirements.

Ostheimer
|
Ostheimer toys are handmade and hand-painted in Germany using up to six coats of paint of 100% non-toxic water-based paints. Most figures are made from maple wood, since it is pretty white and is good to paint. Some figures are made out of ash, because the fascinating structure of the wood is part of the design, some are made of linden, since it is a warm and soft wood. The final treatment with high quality oils from Livos and Biofa. Ostheimer buys wood from local wood farmers in Germany (within a 30 km radius) and has a reforestation agreement with them. A fundamental objective of Ostheimer toys is to preserve this space for children's imaginations. In their interaction with the condensed forms and soft colors of the figures, children learn to enliven them with their own imaginative abilities and to provide them with everything they need for the game in question. Children at play decide whether a horse is a wild stallion galloping across the prairie or an old nag tiredly trotting along the road. Children participate in the creation of their own toys. That is to say, they are allowed to be themselves. In a visionary way and based on her studies of both Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophic ideas, Margarete Ostheimer began a collection of toys which today more than ever is justified and necessary. The collection was established forty years ago as an alternative to a "plastic world" and is today a necessary counterweight to the "high tech world" of the playroom.

Estia
|
ESTIA Holzspielwaren was established in 1995. Initially, our intention was to produce at a reasonable price, exquisite carved wooden articles in only small quantity for the neighbouring towns. At the beginning, we participated in local toy markets around the Frankfurt area. This bought an attractive feed-back from the private sector. To our surprise, we were often contacted by wholesale dealers and then around Christmas `95 we had quite a number of orders from wholesalers.
In 1996, we changed course and directed our endeavours solely for the commercial market and started to create and promote our own designs. Exquisitively carved and reasonably priced wooden toys in small quantity became the key to our success.
The company which first started to create wooden toys just for the fun and pleasure, only as an extra income, started to grow at such a rapid pace that one could not divest this power of becoming a small growing Global Player . In the meantime, we can are proud to have customers throughout Europe and the U.S.A.
